Bunts and Balks (6/8)

In All-Star game voting, the Phillies now have three players leading at their respective positions (Raul Ibanez, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins), with Ryan Howard in (a distant) second at First Base. The people want to see Phillies in the All-Star Game! Rollins has been atrocious (.583 OPS) this season, but he deserves inclusion for his previous success. I suspect a lot of his votes are coming from fans who watched his brilliant performance in the World Baseball Classic.

On Monday night, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (AAA) lost to the Louisville Bats 8-5.The IronPigs' starting pitcher, non-prospect Jake Woods, allowed 4 runs (6 H/0 BB) in 4 IP. Jason Donald has 3 of Lehigh Valley's 10 hits. Slugger Pablo Ozuna is still out of the IronPigs' lineup, with an injured right middle finger.

The Reading Phillies (AA) had Monday off, and host the Trenton Thunder in "Dog Day at the Park." The Phillies prepare their prospects for "Bark at the Park" conditions, throughout their minor league development. This is one reason why the parent club is so successful in games attended by sizeable contingents of canines. Top prospect Kyle Drabek will be on the mound at FirstEnergy Stadium.

The Clearwater Threshers (A) dominated the Palm Beach Cardinals, 9-0.Starting pitcher Michael Galen Cisco, grandson of THE Galen Cisco (former pitcher/pitching coach), threw five scoreless innings.

The Phillies continue to be linked in trade talk to just about every available player. It doesn't seem like that long ago, that the Phillies were trade deadline sellers, or didn't have the available payroll to add any useful acquisitions. It's good to be the WFC!
